If you have a cavity, we welcome you to visit our dental clinic in Saskatoon for a tooth-coloured dental filling!
Dental fillings are used to fill cavities and repair cracked, chipped and/or damaged teeth. When plaque builds up on your teeth it hardens and turns into calculus, or tartar. This buildup causes decay which can eat away at the natural enamel on your teeth, leading to cavities. As such, it is important to practice good oral hygiene regularly at home, and schedule regular dental appointments to help catch cavities before they have the chance to progress. Wildwood Dental Clinic offers patients colour-matched dental fillings to treat cavities and restore teeth back to health.
Direct vs. Indirect fillings
Direct fillings are typically used for less complex cavities. When you visit our dental office for a direct filling, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic, also known as freezing or numbing, before the procedure begins. The damaged tooth is cleaned, decay is removed, and a filling is placed right into the cavity space. As mentioned, we offer colour-matched fillings made of a composite resin material, designed to match the natural colour of your tooth enamel. Since this filling material cures relatively quickly, this procedure is completed in one appointment.
Your dentist will typically use an indirect filling when tooth decay is extensive and there may not be enough healthy portion of the tooth left to support a direct filling. Often referred to as crowns, inlays, or onlays, these fillings are not actually placed in the tooth but are fabricated to fit a model of the tooth and are then cemented on to protect the tooth from further damage.
