Dental Cleanings and Checkups

Preventing oral health problems starts at home! Brushing and flossing twice daily along with regular trips to your dentist is key to maintaining a healthy mouth.

Dental hygiene appointments

Although brushing and flossing daily is important to maintaining healthy teeth and gums, we recommend regular professional hygiene visits at least once every 3 to 9 months. However, due to several factors, most patients require a tailored professional cleaning regimen – your dentist can help put a schedule together for you that makes sense for your mouth health. Our Registered Dental Hygienists will ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible while they thoroughly clean your teeth and gums.

At your teeth cleaning appointment, your dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth that has accumulated over time. Tartar, also known as calculus, is the result of plaque that has hardened over time and has attached to the enamel of your teeth. The bacteria contained in both plaque and tartar is what causes cavities and gum disease to develop, so it’s important that you visit your dental hygienist regularly to have them professionally removed. Your teeth cleaning appointment will last anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes - your dental hygienist will leave your teeth polished and clean, along with education about practicing good oral hygiene at home.

Regular dental exams

In addition to cleanings, it’s important to visit us regularly for dental exams. Typically, patients visit every 6 – 12 months for a checkup on their oral health, but this frequency will vary depending on the patient’s individual oral health needs. Similar to your teeth cleaning routine, your exam schedule will be customized to your individual needs based on a number of factors. Our dentists are here to proactively spot oral health issues as early as possible in order to address and reduce issues such as cavities, infection, gum disease, or initial signs of more serious problems such as oral cancer.
