TMJ/TMJD Treatment and Night Guards

Are you experiencing pain or tension your face or jaw? Do you grind your teeth, hear clicking when you speak, or suffer from headaches?

It’s possible that you may be suffering from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD), a common problem that we’d be happy to help treat at Wildwood Dental Clinic.

What is TMJD?

TMJ disorder is a syndrome in which individuals experience problems with their jaw and the muscles in the face that control them. Dentists believe TMJD symptoms occur from problems with the jaw muscle or with parts of the joint itself caused by injury, the joint or muscles, or teeth grinding and clenching. Unfortunately, TMJD can cause severe pain and discomfort to some patients. Jaws can get ‘stuck’ or ‘locked’ in an open or closed mouth position, cause clicking, popping, or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth. Patients have reported experiencing headaches, neck aches, dizziness, earaches, hearing problems, upper shoulder pain, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus) caused by TMJ disorder.

TMJD treatment at our dental office in Saskatoon

If you’re experiencing jaw pain from TMJD, our dentists will assess your situation and may have you fitted for a dental appliance used to eliminate teeth grinding and clenching, one of the major causes of TMJD. This dental appliance is called anocclusal splint or night guard and it will be custom fitted for your lower and upper teeth to prevent them from touching.

If you’re experiencing jaw pain and would like to know more about TMJD treatment, call our Saskatoon dental clinic to schedule an examination/consultation - (306) 374-7272.
