Oral Cancer Screening

Wildwood Dental Clinic encourages you to regularly visit our dental office in Saskatoon for oral cancer screening.

We recommend patients actively participate in their oral health with regular oral cancer screenings at your regular dental check-up. Detecting oral cancer at an early stage allows for a higher chance of successful treatment.

What is oral cancer?

Cancer is the result of uncontrollable cell growth that causes damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Oral cancer occurs as growths or sores in the mouth that do not heal. Cells that are frequently damaged are at risk of developing cancer, and this risk factor is increased with certain lifestyle habits such as unprotected sun exposure (cancer to the lips), smoking and the excessive consumption of alcohol. Most oral cancers are found on the sides of the tongue, the lips or on the floor of your mouth. Oral cancers can occur in any location of the oral cavity including the lips, tongue, teeth, gums, mouth lining, floor of the mouth, and the palate.

What are the symptoms of oral cancer?

  • White or red patches on your gums, tongue or mouth lining.
  • Lumps or sores on the lip, in the mouth or throat that do not heal.
  • Difficulty or pain when chewing or swallowing.
  • Unusual bleeding or the feeling of numbness in the mouth.

We recommend you actively participate in your oral health with oral cancer screenings at our dental clinic in Saskatoon on 8th St. E between Preston Ave. and Cumberland Ave. Early detection of oral cancer equals a higher chance of successful treatment.
