Restore missing teeth with Dental implants!
Missing teeth are more common than you think. Perhaps you’ve experienced an accident or a sports injury in which your tooth was been knocked out. Maybe you lost a tooth as a result of periodontal (gum) disease or tooth decay. Regardless of how you lost a tooth, you may be a good candidate for a dental implant.
What is a dental implant?
Typically made of titanium, a dental implant consists of a replacement tooth root and a dental crown that attaches to it. Dental implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone and are permanently affixed in the mouth.
Once an implant is installed, time is needed for the jawbone to heal around the replacement root. Healing time is crucial for this procedure as it allows for the replacement root to become securely anchored into the jaw. The healing process will vary between patients. Once the replacement tooth root has securely bonded to the jawbone, an abutment will be installed which acts as the connection between the replacement root in the jawbone and the new dental crown that attaches to it. Your dentist with place a colour-matched dental crown over the implant that is designed to blend in with your natural teeth. When replacing multiple teeth, your dentist may fit you with a custom dental bridge or dentures that attach to the implants.
Why get a dental implant?
Dental implants are a durable and permanent solution for missing teeth, designed to look and feel like your natural teeth. Dental implants have many advantages like aesthetic improvements to your smile, reduction of speech impediments caused by missing teeth, reduction of the wear of adjacent teeth, and the prevention of teeth shifting into the gap.
