Porcelain veneers can dramatically change the appearance of your smile.
Porcelain veneers are used in cosmetic dentistry to improve the look of teeth by brightening the colour or adjusting their shape, length, or spacing, making them a great cosmetic solution for restoring the appearance of your smile.
What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded over the front of your teeth. They are comparable in strength and resilience to that of your natural tooth enamel and can be used to correct the appearance of discoloured, chipped, gapped, or poorly shaped teeth. The porcelain material becomes strong and durable when bonded to teeth with a resin cement. Veneers can dramatically change the appearance of your smile by replacing the entire visible area of the tooth.
What’s involved in a porcelain veneer procedure?
Your dentist can provide you with a local anesthetic (freezing) to ensure you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. The veneers procedure begins with your dentist removing a thin layer of enamel from the teeth to allow adequate space for the veneers to fit over your teeth. An impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to a dental lab to have your porcelain veneers custom-fabricated. While your custom porcelain veneers are in production, temporary veneers will be fitted onto your teeth. Once your porcelain veneers are ready, your temporary veneers will be removed and the porcelain ones cemented onto your teeth, leaving you with your new smile.
