Clear Aligners: Invisalign Provider

Clear aligner therapy offers an alternative to traditional metal braces, using a series of removable, nearly invisible trays to gradually move teeth into a better position.

Orthodontic services at Wildwood Dental Clinic are provided by our general dentist team. Our dentists are not licensed specialists in orthodontics.

Invisalign clear aligners for orthodontic treatment

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that uses a series of custom-made, removable plastic trays to gradually move teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately one to two weeks before progressing to the next set in the series, with each tray applying gentle, controlled pressure to shift teeth incrementally toward the planned position.

Invisalign is a registered trademark of Align Technology. Results vary by individual case, and not all orthodontic concerns can be addressed with aligners alone.

How the process works

1

Consultation and assessment

Your dentist examines your teeth, discusses your goals, and determines whether clear aligners are appropriate for your case. Not all crowding, spacing, or bite issues can be treated with aligners, a thorough assessment is needed to give you accurate information.

2

Digital scan and treatment planning

Digital impressions or scans of your teeth are taken and used to create a 3D treatment plan showing the projected movement of your teeth through each stage. Custom aligners are then fabricated from this plan.

3

Wearing your aligners

You wear each set of aligners for approximately one to two weeks, progressing through the series. Aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours per day, they are removed for eating, drinking (except water), and brushing. Consistency is essential; results depend on wearing aligners as prescribed.

4

Check-in appointments

Periodic appointments at the clinic allow your dentist to monitor your progress, make any necessary adjustments, and provide the next sets of aligners.

Who are clear aligners suitable for?

Clear aligners can be a good option for adults and older teenagers with mild to moderate crowding, spacing, or certain bite issues. They are generally less effective for severe malocclusion, significant bite correction, or cases where complex tooth movement is required. A consultation is necessary to determine whether your case is appropriate for this type of treatment.

Advantages of clear aligners

  • Removable, aligners are removed for eating, so there are no dietary restrictions. They are also removed for brushing and flossing, making it easier to maintain oral hygiene during treatment.
  • Discreet, the clear plastic is nearly invisible when worn, which many patients find preferable to traditional metal braces.
  • No brackets or wires, there is no hardware that can cause irritation to the cheeks or lips, and no risk of a wire coming loose.

Compliance matters

Clear aligner treatment depends heavily on patient compliance. Aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only for eating and oral hygiene. Wearing them for shorter periods will slow or prevent the planned tooth movement and can extend treatment time. This is an important consideration before starting.

Retainers after treatment

Once aligner treatment is complete, teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original positions. Wearing retainers as directed by your dentist is essential to maintain the results. Retainer requirements vary, your dentist will advise on the appropriate schedule for your situation.
